What Is the Difference Between a Regular and Large Sized Portions?

In general, our regular sized entrees are about 400 calories and our large are about 550 calories. Our cold entrees only come in regular sizes.

When we design our recipes, we base our portion sizes on the USDA Recommended Daily Allowances and Guidelines for Healthy Lunches.  Our regular portion is for Preschool through 5th grade students while our large is geared for 6th grade through high school students, but for some students these portions are smaller than what they would like. 

The large portion is not a 'double' lunch. In the large portions, we increase the protein portion (such as chicken and beef) of the meal by about 33-50%. The carbohydrate portion of the meal usually stays the same, but one exception is the pasta entrees, which usually have an additional 4 oz (volume) of cooked pasta.

The only item where the child receives a double portion is the pizza, where a regular portion is one slice and a large portion is two slices. Please remember all lunches also include choice of one of the 9 daily snacks, fruit or vegetables, and a beverage, and are not included in the nutrition information for the lunches.
